Nameless
A classless action RPG built on crafting
The idea
Nameless is an action RPG that leans hard on crafting. Your skills are tied to the type of weapon you use, so instead of picking a class you become whatever you build and carry.
Crafting and gathering
Progress runs through a set of crafting disciplines, each with a matching gathering skill:
Bladesmithing (daggers, swords) · Fletching (bows, arrows) · Spellbinding (staffs, mage books) · Blacksmithing (metal goods) · Tanning (leather goods) · Cooking (healing items).
The world
There are three areas to explore, each with its own boss, enemies, and crafting materials, so you have to keep adjusting your gear as you go.
Story
The world was torn apart by the demon king Nailliv. The only weapon that can beat him was made by his own hand, then destroyed and scattered in pieces across what was left of the world. Every piece is guarded by an ancient evil.
How I’m building it
This is the project I care about most, and I’m using it to stretch myself across as much of the game as I can. Apart from the engine and some art assets, I’m making it all myself.
It started with planning. I drew up flowcharts and class diagrams to work out the bones of the game before writing much code. The first real work went into menus, helper utilities, and the core systems everything else sits on.
Since then I’ve written an animation controller that queues up character animations on the fly, plus my own tools for managing assets, encrypting save files, and a command console for debugging.
